When I read the recent news that the last manufactured roll of Kodachrome has been developed, it reminded me that I have a roll of exposed but undeveloped Kodachrome sitting in my box of misc photo stuff. This particular roll was shot in the mid 60s by my grandpa or grandma. It’s hard to believe it’s nearly 50 years old.
In the article I saw that the one and only lab that still processes Kodachrome is calling it quits this December. So I have a decision:
1) Send this roll in, get it developed, and run the risk that the film doesn’t even develop, which is pretty likely considering the age of this stuff. If it doesn’t develop then I no longer have this pice of history and have no images.
2) Hang onto this like roll of secrets forever wondering what lies imprinted on it.
I think I’m going to hang onto it. If one day the mystery overtakes me maybe I’ll try my luck and put it through some D-76 and see what lies within, if anything.
